The moment of truth – Peeling the print back from the printing plate reveals the print for the first time. The printing plate is made by hand from a delicate card base that I have cut into the intricate shape of the seahorse. This is then given texture using collage techniques. The collaged surface gives the plate its texture that provides the matrix for the ink to settle into. I need to apply the ink each time the plate is printed, and it never goes in quite the same place twice meaning that each print from the same edition is unique.
